The children's hospitals affiliated with the University of California have been recognized as leaders in pediatric healthcare across the state and Pacific region, according to the latest U.S. News World Report rankings for Best Children’s Hospitals. Each UC hospital was lauded among the top ten facilities in their respective regions, highlighting a strong commitment to providing exceptional care for children suffering from complex medical conditions.
These prestigious recognitions are bestowed upon hospitals that demonstrate superior performance across multiple pediatric specialties, with only 90 of approximately 200 children's hospitals nationwide achieving this level of distinction. The achievements underscore the outstanding dedication and expertise provided by UC's healthcare teams in managing both routine care and challenging diagnoses.

Byington, Executive Vice President for University of California Health and a distinguished pediatrician, applauded the hospitals for their efforts: The health challenges facing our children are evolving rapidly due to factors such as infectious diseases, access issues with nutrition, and environmental changes. The teams at UC's children's hospitals have shown remarkable resilience during these unprecedented times, providing care that is both comprehensive and compassionate.
UC Davis Children’s Hospital was acknowledged as Sacramento region's top-ranked facility for its comprehensive pediatric services. Ranked eighth in California and tenth in the Pacific region, this hospital excelled in diabetes and ocrinology, neonatology, nephrology, orthopedics, and pulmonology and lung surgery specialties. A partnership with Shriners Children’s Northern California was recognized in the orthopedic rankings.
UCLA Mattel Children's Hospital at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center was positioned among the top five facilities in both California and Pacific region. With 16 years of consecutive recognition for excellence, this hospital joined a select group of institutions nationally distinguished across multiple pediatric specialties: cancer, gastroenterology and gastrointestinal surgery, nephrology, neonatology, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopedics, and urology.
UCSF Benioff Children's Hospitals in San Francisco and Oakland were jointly rated as the third-best children’s hospital in California and Pacific region for the seventh consecutive year. These institutions mntned a national ranking among the top 25 across seven specialties: cancer, gastroenterology and gastrointestinal surgery, neonatology, nephrology, neurology and neurosurgery, pulmonology and lung surgery, urology, cardiology and heart surgery, diabetes and ocrinology.
The comprehensive U.S. News World Report ranking process evaluates hospitals based on clinical outcomes such as patient survival rates and infection rates, the quality of resources dedicated to patient care, adherence to best practices in healthcare delivery, and expert opinion from pediatric specialists.
In 2022-23, this assessment evaluated national rankings for Best Children's Hospitals across ten key specialties: cancer, cardiology and heart surgery, diabetes and ocrinology, gastroenterology and gastrointestinal surgery, neonatology, nephrology, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopedics, pulmonology and lung surgery, and urology.
