Addressing Mental Health Through Oasis for Minds Services

In 2020, Singapore Children's Society identified mental health challenges as significant barriers to the well-being of children and young persons CYP. As a response, we introduced Oasis for Minds Services OMS with the objective of offering seamless care that spans from promotion of mental health awareness to accessible early intervention and recovery-focused services. This approach is med at empowering our beneficiaries to develop positively and live in safe and inclusive communities.

We spoke with the OMS team about their motivation behind joining this initiative, reflecting on what kind of Singapore they envision through their work.

Why Join the Oasis for Minds Services Team?

AA: For me, my decision to join was driven by a desire to venture into new territory. Having witnessed firsthand how poor mental health impacts individuals and families, alongside the transformative potential of timely and appropriate interventions, I saw OMS as an opportunity to live out my personal values more fully while supporting CYP at various stages of their journeys.

AK: OMS was the perfect intersection for me between my passion for making a difference in others' lives and my interest in mental health. Previous experiences have shown that youth are often close to my heart, which made this role appealing as I could be tangibly impactful on them.

PC: What drew me to mental health work is its diversity and dynamism. CYP and their families often require tlored attention when facing the challenges of mental health issues. The OMS provides a platform for engagement through outreach programs and in-depth case interventions, which are deeply fulfilling experiences.

SL: Joining this team was about stepping out into the unknown together to create a future that empowers beneficiaries and strengthens communities - it aligns with my desire to make a meaningful impact.

ZL: I am inspired by the team's dedication and vision for creating positive change in mental health support. The collective drive towards common goals, diverse experiences, and shared passion make this journey impactful.

Advice for Struggling with Mental Health

AK: Don't hesitate to seek help from various sources specifying your needs clearly. There are more caring individuals than you might think who can provide the support you need.

SL: Reach out and talk about your struggles - whether it's with a professional or someone close, sharing your burden can offer new perspectives.

ZL: Practice self-compassion - treat yourself like your own best fri. The same kindness we show others is essential for our own mental well-being.
