Our Story

In 1948, John Paul Mattson was treated for a hernia at Omaha’s brand new medical facility, Children's Memorial Hospital. This marked the beginning of what would evolve into Children's Nebraska - a beacon for pediatric healthcare in the region. The hospital opened its doors thanks to visionary individuals like Dr. C.W.M. Poynter and Henry Doorly who med to ensure that no child would be denied care due to financial inability.

The original cost of $835,000 was rsed through community-wide penny drives alongside contributions from 30,000 donors across Nebraska and western Iowa.
