Revolutionizing Pediatric Healthcare: $5B Dallas Hospital Expansion by HKSPerkinsWill

HKS and PerkinsWill are transforming pediatric healthcare with the development of Children's Health Hospital's reimagined campus in Dallas. Selected by Children’s Health and UT Southwestern Medical Center to address the growing need for children's health services in North Texas, this partnership create a state-of-the-art facility that will be one of the largest dedicated to pediatric care in the United States.

The new campus is set to replace an existing facility at Dallas's Children's Health Hospital. Estimated at a total investment of $5 billion and covering 4.5 million square feet of new construction, this project seeks to increase the hospital's inpatient capacity by 38. Moreover, it will offer an expanded emergency department with more space for patient care 15 increase, additional operating rooms 22 boost along with plans for future expansion. Notably, these enhancements include a Level I pediatric trauma center equipped with 90 emergency treatment areas and observation rooms, as well as a new fetal care center offering advanced and accessible services in maternal and fetal health.

In addition to these core services, the development will feature a bridge connecting the new facilities to UT Southwestern's William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital. An outpatient building is also planned on campus with 96 examination rooms for patients seeking less intensive care.

The architecture of this hospital showcases a contemporary design with several rectangular volumes dressed in prismatic glass facades, prioritizing access to outdoor spaces with landscaped balconies integrated throughout the structure.

Construction is anticipated to begin in the second half of 2024 and it's expected to open within six to seven years.

This project, once completed, significantly enhance pediatric healthcare services by improving patient care facilities, increasing treatment capacities, and modernizing the infrastructure for a better future for children in North Texas.
